Case Preparation & Checklists

Send a Case

Before sending a case, confirm what the lab is making and what records are needed.

A scan or impression provides the patient's anatomy; the prescription (Rx) tells the lab what the doctor wants produced. Sending complete records helps prevent avoidable intake holds.

Common Case Information

Depending on the restoration or appliance, your submission may include the following items (not every item is mandatory for every product):

  • Rx / prescription with doctor and practice details
  • Tooth number or arch / case location
  • Requested restoration or appliance
  • Requested material
  • Shade selection (and stump shade where relevant)
  • Requested due date
  • Physical impression or digital intraoral scan
  • Opposing arch record
  • Bite registration
  • Clinical photos where appropriate
  • Implant system, platform, and scan-body information when applicable
  • Existing restoration or appliance reference when relevant
  • Case-specific special instructions

Digital vs. Physical Submissions

Digital Submissions

  • Intraoral scan of the preparation / arch
  • Opposing arch digital scan
  • Digital bite scan in the appropriate occlusal relationship
  • Associated digital records (such as pre-op/provisional scans, scan-body captures, or photos)

Physical Submissions

  • Physical impression (PVS / polyether / alginate as appropriate for the product)
  • Stone model when poured in-office
  • Physical bite registration record
  • Existing appliance, provisional, or diagnostic reference where applicable

Digital Scanner Connection

We accept digital cases from major intraoral scanning systems. Contact your lab representative for the correct connection details for your office.

Crown & Bridge Submissions

Checklist for single crowns, inlays/onlays, veneers, and fixed bridges.

A scan or impression provides anatomy; the Rx tells the lab what the doctor wants produced.

Required Clinical Submission Assets

ItemClinical Requirement DetailsStatus
Rx / PrescriptionDoctor details, patient identifier, tooth number(s), restoration type, and special instructions.Required
Requested Material & ShadeTarget shade (plus stump/prep shade when relevant for translucent ceramics) and requested restorative material.Required
Preparation Scan or ImpressionClear 360-degree margin visibility and adjacent contact teeth without voids or distortion.Required
Opposing ArchComplete opposing arch or quadrant scan/impression matching the preparation arch.Required
Bite RegistrationAccurate interocclusal bite record showing the patient's occlusal relationship.Required
Clinical Photos (When Relevant)Shade tab reference photos or smile photos when helpful for anterior or esthetic cases. When Applicable

Digital Scan Protocol

  • Review the preparation scan to confirm margins and interproximal contacts are clearly captured.
  • Include pre-op or provisional scans if the doctor wants existing contours referenced.

Traditional Impression Protocol

  • Check physical impressions for margin continuity, tray adherence, and absence of voids.
  • Enclose the completed Rx and protect impressions and bite records from compression during transit.

Implant Case Submissions

Checklist for single-unit and multi-unit implant crowns, custom abutments, and implant bridges.

If you are unsure which scan body, platform, or workflow applies, confirm with the technical team before submitting.

Required Clinical Submission Assets

ItemClinical Requirement DetailsStatus
Implant System / Brand & PlatformSpecify the implant manufacturer, system line, and platform/connection diameter on the Rx.Required
Tooth Number & Restoration TypeIndicate tooth location, screw-retained vs. cement-retained preference, and stock vs. customized abutment preference.Required
Scan Body or Impression Coping RecordDigital scan with the matching scan body fully seated, or physical impression with the appropriate impression coping/analog.Required
Arch / Soft-Tissue Scan or ImpressionCaptures emergence profile, adjacent contacts, and surrounding soft-tissue contours.Required
Opposing Arch & BiteOpposing arch and bite registration to evaluate restorative space and occlusion.Required
Shade & Doctor InstructionsTarget shade, contact/occlusion instructions, and any special abutment or access-hole handling notes.Required

Digital Scan Protocol

  • Ensure the scan body orientation feature is fully captured and matches the selected scanner library.
  • Do not guess scan-body or platform compatibility; confirm with the technical team if uncertain.

Traditional Impression Protocol

  • Clearly label the implant brand, platform size, and enclosed components on the Rx.
  • Secure physical analogs, copings, or screws in a labeled container within the case box.

Removables & Appliances

Checklist for complete dentures, partials, relines/repairs, night guards, retainers, and trays.

Required Clinical Submission Assets

ItemClinical Requirement DetailsStatus
Rx / Stage & Appliance SpecificationSpecify arch (upper, lower, or both), requested stage (custom tray, bite block, try-in, finish) or appliance type/thickness.Required
Upper / Lower Impressions or ScansComplete arch capture including relevant anatomical landmarks and borders.Required
Bite Record / VDO (Where Applicable)Articulated bite rim, centric bite record, or open-bite record at the desired appliance thickness. When Applicable
Shade, Mold & Design PreferencesTooth shade, mold, clasp/framework notes, or standing appliance preferences where applicable. When Applicable

Digital Scan Protocol

  • Capture full arch coverage and soft-tissue borders needed for the requested removable stage or appliance.

Traditional Impression Protocol

  • Protect wax rims, try-in setups, and stone models carefully to prevent distortion during shipping.

Full Arch / All-on-X

Full Arch / All-on-X Submissions

All-on-X / Full Arch refers to a full-arch restoration supported by multiple implants.

Records That May Be Needed for a Full-Arch Case

  • Implant-position records (implant system, restorative level, and verified position records)
  • Intraoral / soft-tissue scan capturing arch anatomy and mucosal contours
  • Opposing arch scan or model
  • Bite registration and vertical dimension (VDO) records
  • Scan or record of the existing provisional restoration (when present)
  • Clinical reference photos (smile, midline, and occlusal plane references)
  • Photogrammetry files where applicable to the office's scanning workflow
  • Other restorative references or try-in records relevant to the current stage

How Intraoral Scans and Photogrammetry Work Together

Photogrammetry does not replace every other record.

  • Intraoral scan → captures oral anatomy, soft-tissue contours, opposing dentition, and bite relationships.
  • Photogrammetry → captures the geometric implant-position relationship across multiple implants.
Full-arch workflows vary by implant system, restorative level, and scanning system. Confirm the required workflow with the lab before scanning.
